Warning, Troll...Scott Tinley is the greatest TriathleteMarketing Dept

Even though I consider myself a tri-geek, I spend most of my time on the Bike or Racing forums. There just seems to be more provoking discussion there.

However, I do consider Tinley the greatest. Maybe not in overall top finishes, but perhaps in the area of longevity and being consistent.

It just so happens that I aim for those same qualities in my athletic career. Being over 40, I am sad to say that all of my lowest times are behind me. But, my best times (best meaning how much I enjoy the sport) are right now and even more to come.

As I look at Tinley's career, I give him the highest marks. While always placing in a respectable fashion, creating a business from a new sport (I still have some Tinley shorts and singlets) and still having fun and being fit, he is the best.

Anyone want to point out others who have made contributions to the sport we now enjoy?

While I think Tinley is great, Dave Scott is "triathlon" to me. I will never forget watching all those 80's battles on NBC, tinely, scott, allen, etc..., but Scott just seemed to have more guts and determination. Infact he inspired me so much the 1st Tri I did, only 1 of 2 so I am not an expert by any means, was the Cal IM in 2000. an amazing experience, I pretty much owe to Mr. Scott
Now the really important question...Marketing Dept

Dave, Scott, Molina and Riccettello (sp) were great. But who is filling the shoes these days?

For a while there was Pigg and Welch. Those guys were a genration ago even still. Who are The Men, The Grip and the Terminator these days?

McCormick definitely gets a thumbs up, but perhaps I am just old and nastalgic, I just don't see the epic battles these days.

Any suggestions on who to watch for?

At the Quelle Challenge Roth, in germany, it came down to 3 seconds between Loth Leder and McCormack... in an IM...

Triathlete magizine has a good story on it this month and a great pick of both of them sprawlled at the finish.
