what does it really do? does it really make you that much more aero in the water? also why do some sites say not to buy a latex cap?

1. keeps hair out of the pool
2. provides a de minimus less drag
3. provides warmth in cold water
4. provides visability in open water/races.

Some people are allergic to latex.

And,

Keeps hair out of they eyes (I coach far too many kids who have embaraced the shaggy, snowboarder look and pause every 6 strokes to fling their hair out of their face "wear the cap, or hair cut...")

Silicone caps are more comfy than latex and wont pull on your hair as much, and I have found that they last longer as well.
