finished first tri !!!CN2071

Well I finished my first tri and although it was fun and I am looking forward to my next, it was not a stellar performance. I did the sprint tri in 1:31:53. I guess that's not too bad for a 33 yr female who's only been training for 6 weeks. I think I came out of the swim with too high of a heart rate, the bike was good, but the run was horrible. I had to run and walk the whole way, I just couldn't catch my breath. Legs were fine. I think I just need a more aerobic base in training and increase mileage in the pool and run, a few bricks wouldn't hurt my transition either.

Way to go!

Bricks will always help, and another thing to keep in mind is upon exiting the pool to the bike transition it may be worth while (in a non-drafting race) to slow down.

When I was starting out that was my biggest mistake, I would tear out of the pool and go anarobic before I even hit the bike.

If you have a solid swim take a sec to get to the bike, dont rush/panic I find that the 15secs you lose in transition are easily made up later.

Cheers,
RC

Way to go!

I just finished my second (first in several years) sprint tri, and was also disappointed in my time. My time was second to last in my age group (Men 25-29) and was only competetive in the Women 50-54 class! :) Kind of humbling in this new fitness world...

However, I have had soooo many people do nothing but congratulate and encourage me and my interest that I can't help but do the same for you! Keep up the hard work and (so I'm told) you'll be competitive before you know it!
