Just wonder what exactly are the distances in the standard tri's. I know there are sprints which are shorter courses, but what's Olympic, Ironman, any others?

Standard distances for Olympic: 1500 meter swim, 40Km bike, 10Km run

Standard Ironman: 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run

Half-Ironman is obviously half the Ironman distances. There are quite a few "long-course" races that are not tied specifically to the "Ironman" company (years ago the Ironman commodity was incorporated, and they now guard the "Ironman" name pretty closely) which are the same distance (Great Floridian is an example). The Nice triathlon is long course, but a bit shorter than the traditional Ironman distances.

Hope that helps.
