|hi. My first tri is coming up very soon and although ive been training hard on the bike i kinda neglect swimming, i have a very weak chest from illness and asthma and just the feeling of chest and face down in the water is not nice, i cant get any stamina or rhythm .....so...... ive been working on breast stroke and i can do the 1500m in a reasonable time........ im great on the bike and not so bad at running so my question is........ does anyone ever use this stroke on the day? will i be the only fool doing breast stroke? any other advice for doing 1500m in this stroke? thanks|

|I've got my first tri in a few days too... I plan on using breast stroke for a little bit, maybe around 200m or so.
Being my first race, I'm not really seeing it as a race, I'm just going to get across the line. This tri will be more for a learning experience then an attempt to post a decent time. I say if you feel more comfortable doing breast stroke, do it!! Plus, if your first tri is very soon, I doubt you, or anybody, would be able to develope the stamina to swim 1.5k with front crawl in that short time!

|Ive seen at least one person use breast strokes during nearly every race i've watched (cant account for the races i've run). In fact, the last race i watched, number 2 did a backstroke for about 1/2 of the return leg.
Dont worry about it; just enjoy yourself.
