Going offroad for the first time, any advice?js5280

Signed up for the Xterra (1K, 26K, 10K) at Keystone next week. This is my first off-road tri and only my second triathlon. Training is going well; I've ridden the course, been riding, running, and swimming regularly, still need to swim in the wetsuit to make sure it will work (it's not a tri-specific one, full length 3/2 surf/general purpose suit) alright. I'm an avid mt. biker so my tech skills are there. I'm looking to finish in about 3 to 3.5 hours, so I won't be anywhere near the podium, mainly want to finish respectably. Any other special recommendations for an event of this type? I haven't seen any other posts on off-road tri here. . .
Have some funsctri

expect the unexpected,
go with whatever flow there is,
laugh at your mistakes
be happy with your accomplishment at the end...

You will have a blast. My suggestion if you are a newbie is try to pace off someone who looks like they know what they are doing. I did one here in ATL a long time ago, but the Bike Course was simple (not technical), but I did exactly that, then kicked ass on the run.

I think off road races are so much more fun to be honest and the people that run them seem nicer. I have done road tri and duathlons for 6 years and some of the guys that do these I want to kick their freaking skulls in. I figure these are the sexually frustrated ones!!!

Welcome to the offroad world. I still do road versions and doing my first Ironman next year, but Offroad is killer! You will be hooked...and after that, do an Adventure Race.

Have fun
