|Target HR for a dualthlon/biathlon||Attacoa|

|I know (think) that the target hr for a particular event is usually inversely proportional to the length of the event. So what should a target hr be for a 1 hour to 1 hour 20 min run/bike/run or run/bike event? I'm guessing around 85 to 90% of mhr, but can that level of intensity be maintained for over 1 hour?|

|I did a sprint duathlon this weekend. Started at 83% of max and ended the race at 91%. I think that was about right. But people are different, and you'll have to learn what works best for you.
In retrospect, I may have started the race a little too hard. And 90% is strictly for the last 1.5 miles of the run, if you've got anything left. Probably best to try to keep yourself at 85% for most of the race, and see how you feel from there. Better to start too slow than too fast--you don't want do build up a lot of lactic acid too early. Also, your run HR should be slightly higher than your bike HR, due to differences in body position.
