|I want to buy a tri bike for someone as a gift. I know he likes the Quintana Roo Tequilo. I have read mixed reviews and just wanted some advice. This is his first year of tris but he has done road races for two or three years. I know once he starts he will be totally hooked so I also want something he can use as he gets more advanced. Any suggestions?|

|Questions you need to answer
What price range?
what frame material?
do you want to get a tri specific bike?
I would look at Cervelo. I know a few people who have them and they are really nice. they are very stiff though. I started out as a road racer and switched to multisport a couple of years ago. I still just use a road bike. I use clip on aero bars and aero wheels. I like training on a road bike. It is more comfortable for long training rides. Also the new Cervelo Solo looks nice, because it is somewhere inbetween a road bike and a tri bike.

|I'd avoid trying to make the decision for your friend. Give a certificate that says you'll write the check (and you may want to put an upper limit on this), but HE has to make the decision on which one. Then go with him to the LBS and have fun.|| |
