|A limit to the TTT losses in the '04 TdF||eyebob|

|This is the dopiest thing that I've heard. To limit the losses to 2:30 is goofy. Why try? Why not limit losses on all stages? What's the team for if not to help limit losses?
Do any of you know whether this has any history? Is there precedent for it?

|I don't think there's a precedent. They (TdF organizers) just want to make race close and to limit damage to smaller teams who may have a sigle good rider. Both Ullrich, Mayo-Zubeldia would have benefitted from this last year. It will mostly hurt USPS as without ONCE they will be the dominant TTT team. I don't know if Saiz can whip L.S. into the TTT machine of ONCE but we'll see. I think that if tis is the case they should squeeze the maximum limit down otherwise teams will sandbag. Make it a tight percentage of winning time or say no more than 5 minutes out. I don'tagree with it at all, don't think it fair to the Teams that spend $$ for a good, complete squad.|

|Leblanc is interested in keeping interest in show, and this is a good compromize and good for cycling in general. It actually gives a chance to teams with smaller budget, and doesn't put good riders like Beloki, etc out of competition. Yes LA and Jan get screwed up, but will it be fun to watch tour after T-Mobil and USPS gained 5-7min advantage over the field in one early flat stage?
Of cause the easiest solution would have been to exclude TTT from tour.

|agree to some sort but then why not but max limit loss on Mtn events to allow sprinters a shot at the Yellow Jersey? Just using this as an example of the slippery slope it sets up. Agree would be better to just eliminate. I see how it helps smaller teams but in inverse hurts the bigger teams. why spend the $$ to field a solid roster? Would Tour be fun after? It has been, Beloki and Jan have both been on Teams where they could compete at the TTT and those Tours were still enjoyable. Maybe they want Chavanel to have a shot, but Beloki is on same team now....who knows.|

|why not limit the loss to around 4 minutes instead of 2.5 ??
At 2.5 min, there's still too little of a margin for error. If LA falls he could easily lose that on a climb.

|agreed, or make it 3.5 and if you finish outside of 6 minutes of the winner whole team gets DQ'd|| |
