Beltran Losing it?(7 posts)

Beltran Losing it?Dwayne Barry

Didn't look so hot the last day in the mountains, and now he fails to make the front group today, losing just over a minute to the other GC men and effectively extending the ONCE duo's lead.
Dumb move by Postal perhaps...Spunout

Most of the team was with Heras in the front group. Only Michael Barry in the second group with Beltran.

All that resulted, is that Heras made up time on Beltran by Beltran slipping in the GC. Nobody made time on the GC contenders, so now Postal is in a weaker position than they were at the beginning of the stage!

Too bad if Beltran misses the podium by less than a minute when this is all over.
Just watched it...Dwayne Barry

Beltran may have crashed and thats how he ended up in the second group. But when his group came to the line neither Beltran or the other Postal rider in the group were setting the pace to limit the damage. If not hurt, that's not the behavior of a man riding for a podium spot!

Naturally the day after I question Telekom riding for Zabel, they bring the break back and set Zabel up for the win.
why would it matter if Heras made up time on Beltran???BAi9302010

Well he's given Heras a larger cushion. Beltran's already shown he can't climb with Heras, even on not-so-steep mountains. He'll surely lose more time to Heras in the upcoming steeper slopes. He can't afford to lose time to him on the flats.
It doesn't...Dwayne Barry

it matters that he lost a minute to Nozal, GdG, Frigo and A. Gonzalez. Those are the men he needs to catch or are most likely to overtake him. Heras would be the preferrable one to overtake him, then at least Postal would still have a man on the podium. I think once the next TT is over, it will be pretty clear who has a shot at the podium and if ONCE have this largely in the bag or not.
True: Postal's position is now a bit weaker after that stage. nmSpunout
