|You know it's a Canadian paper when the best compliment they can pay is to put him in the same category with Wayne Gretzkey...|

|Ian says.......and I quote "Lance's position as one of the worlds greatest athletes is dependent on whether people feel he was drug free for the first three tour wins."
What is that? 1998 is the Festina scandal and you can bet they tested everybody the next year and every year since. (I know that some think they can beat the tests but eventually they get caught, and again, Lance has NEVER tested positive). Some people may think I am naive, but I truly do not believe Lance would put his life in jeopardy again just to win a bike race.
Next quote for old Ian......"I also find it interesting that because Lance is American, he now becomes an icon in North America, however, when Miguel Indurain won his fifth tour nobody paid any attention."
Again, in my opinion, Ian has no clue. I sat in front of the TV (crappy network coverage though it be) to watch Miguels attempt at six and was cheering him on just as I will be cheering for Lance next year (albeit with ALOT better coverage on OLN). Miguel was, and still is, an icon to North American cyclists as well as cyclists around the globe. Surely he can't really mean nobody was paying attention. Lance has earned his right to be viewed as an icon, not because he is American but because he is a FIVE time winner of the TDF. Some people just don't like Lance and America, even some Americans.
Sorry about the rant, the rest of the letters were great. I don't mind cynics just don't be cynical for the sake of being cynical.
