As sad as I am that the tour is over...empacher6seat

if I had to watch Bob Roll's hand talking for one more day, I would have completely lost it. Did anyone else notice this? I agree that when you want to really stress a point a hand gesture or two can be useful, but the non stop waving, drawing, and clutching of hands on Bob's part was a real distraction from what I was trying to focus on: Kristen Gum - I MEAN, the tour!

On a more serious note, this was the first year I really followed the tour, and I am hooked! It was an interesting experience learning about a new sport, and I was most touched by the unwritten rules of the peleton (don't attack when a leader is down, riders shaking hands after working together all day, then sprinting for the finish, etc).

Dude Bobke has one thing that Kirsten will never cred.

Yes there are people better than Bobke and Frankie at being hosts, but they don't know jack about cycling. Bobke and Frankie have ACTUALLY been in the Tour before, which for Americans is a very select few, probably abobut 15-20 by a quick guess.

Bottom line is that cycling is the greatest sport out there and that we can sniff out phoneys Kirsten is not a cyclist while Bobke and Frankie are and that goes a long way in my book.

She probably fullfilled OLN's goals in being eye-candy (you wouldn't want Rosie O'donnel in that role), and for the purpose of asking the questions (to Bob) that the un-informed would need to know.
Bob, hand waving and all, is great in the role that he'd played. Hmmm...what would happen if a third member with another role to play was added? Robin Williams?

Frankie had a good interview with Williams who used a throw-away line that was one of the best of the Tour. "The Tour de France is NASCAR without explosions." (At least I hope I remember it correctly.) LOL.

annoying & distracting hand waving.

Kirsten did a good job of what she was hired to do, by the way. 'Bike cred' had nothing to do with it.

Apart fromt the eye-candy aspect, while she admittedly is not the most knowledable cycling analyst around I found her genuine enthusiasm refreshing. And her ability to tease Phil into lightening-up a bit was a nice touch.
she just did her job ....marcoxxx

in small doses like his commercials, or on the written page like velo news. his hand gestures really bug the crap out of me, as well as his penchant for the flowery poetic tome that he thinks sounds important, but actually just comes across as sounding stupid.

Small doses of Bob for me too. Actually, I think it's Lance's presence in the race that causes Bob to irritate me so much. Why doesn't he just come out and tell the world he's got a major hard-on for Lance? Any time he and Kirstin started talking about the guy you could see them puckering up to kiss his arse. Every day it was; "Lance is getting better and today he'll put the rest of the cycling world in the dust with a truly awesome display of savage power and raw courage that only he is capable of delivering." Yeah, yeah, yeah Bob. You've been saying that for 5 days now. Get your head out of Lance's butt already.
You guys are all crying way too much!t-bill

If you don't like it change the channel! I am just glad that we got to watch the race every day. It would have been a lot more boring without Bobke. Can you imagine if he would have been the main broadcaster... it would have been too weird to watch. Kirsten did an admirable job!
Dont any of you remember Bill Patrick?CharlesTT

Kirsten Gum did a much better job than Bill did in 2002. Bill didn't know a damn thing about cycling and told stupid jokes. Kirsten knew somethings and was much better than Bill and she worked well with Bob.
Yes. Kirsten looked better, but neither necessary. nmDougSloan

Kirsten Gum got better with every broadcast. She made for an enjoyable presence, and I agree that it was fun watching her force Phil to lighten up. It's also important to have a good-looking blonde host the coverage. If you've ever watched Italian TV cover the Giro, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Once one of the best color commentators going, Bob Roll has fallen into some bad habits. He needs a coach to get him out of them.

Frankie still ain't F. Lee Bailey when it comes to asking the incisive question. But like Kirsten Gum, he gets better every time out. It's also good to see he's dropped the "I'm so cool" persona of his previous years. Now, he just comes across as a nice guy who digs his work.

Phil and Paul are as authoritative and compelling as ever. But, as the bingo game suggests, Phil and Paul do tend to repeat themselves. And why can't they occasionally keep quiet for a while, and let the images do the talking?

Bob Roll or Bob Varsha?

i'ld take Roll anyday. I actually like him. The amount they delivered of him was fine. a little at the beginning, a bit at the end, not too much through out.

Kirsten did what she was supposed to do, like so many have said before. She was there to ask questions for most of the general population who tune to OLN and see what this 'bicycle racing' is all about. I doubt she was there for the benefit of most of the people on these kinds of boards. she was also easy on the eyes, unlike bob varsha.

Phil and Paul - esp. phil, he's almost an institution.
