|Who is greatest cyclist ever?
* 509 responses
Jacques Anquetil (Won Tour in 1957, 1961-64)
Lance Armstrong (Won in 1999-2003)
Bernard Hinault (1978-79, 1981-82, 1985)
Miguel Indurain (Won in 1991-95)
Eddy Merckx (Won in 1969-72, 1974)
Do the people who voted have no idea, or are they all caught up in Armstrong mania.....
Eddy surely is the greatest?

|Think about it, MSNBC doesn't have cycling fans... Put the same poll in a cycling forum and you'll get a vastly different result.|

|They are asking people who the best cyclist ever was, when 99% of the people that will ever see the poll have never heard of any other rider except Armstrong.
It's like taking a poll in Tennesee, Kentucky, Alabama and the Carolina's if gun control should be imposed on all guns. 90%+ of the respondants would say no. Now go to LA, Portland, Seattle, etc. and ask the same question and you would have opposite results.
Polls are worthless unless you take into account the demographics of the people asked.

Merckx hands down, 5 Tours, 5 Giros, 2 Vueltas;
Lance 5 Tours, 0 Giros, 0 Vueltas, nuff said.
There are only two other athletes who I can say that, hands down they are the best. Gretzky and Michael Schumacher (F-1 car racing, I know it's cars but I still have respect.)
PS: I wonder if it has anything to do with the anti-French movement with Hinault and Anquetil so low? I would rank Merckx, Hinault, Anquetil, Armstrong, Indurain, but I would put Copi in there somewhere as well.
