|With U.S. Postal's win in the time trial, Victor Hugo Pena took the overall lead and was rewarded with his own weight in champagne before the start of the fifth stage. Pena took the prize on his 29th birthday.|

|This will go down in the books as one of the little stories that makes up the legend that is the Tour.
While Pena was wearing yellow, he noticed that Lance was out of water. Upon dropping back to the car for service, he was told by Bruyneel that "the maillot jaune does *NOT* carry water bottles, get George or Eki to do it..."
His response: "Lance needs a bottle now, and I was the one there to see it..." He loaded up with bottles and hauled them up just like he does any other day. The sight of the sacred yellow jersey bulging with bidons offended a TON of old-school Tour snobs and Victor didn't give a rat's hairy bum about it either. He's my candidate for Clif Bar Domestique.
Those crazy Posties. The hallowed maillot jaune has never seen such abuse: first VHP takes it on water runs, then Lance takes it for an offroad adventure, then shreds it in a crash on the way to his stage win!
