|Sixth American with a Tour stage win||TypeOne|

|As Paul mentioned it, I had to run it through the Trivia-meter in my mind. My friends and I tried to list the names, and I was the only one who could think of 6 (!) I came up with:
Well, as Bobke later pointed out, I was wrong. I hadn't heard of Jeff Pierce. Didn't Vaughters win with the TTT and Credit Agricole last year? Am I mistaken, and if not, doesn't that count as a stage win?

|TTT doesn't count as an individual stage win. Jeff Pierce won on the final day Champs Elysses (I remember him being 7-11 but it morphed into Motorola so don't hold me to this). If TTT counted than Hincapie and Floyd would have a stage as well from this year.|

|Had I been thinking (it was 7 AM, afterall) I would have realized that Hincapie and Landis would be included if TTT counted! But it seems Bob or Paul or someone listed the number of career stage victories Lance had and how he stacks up to Merckx et al, and he included the team time trial. Again, I may have been groggy at the time.

|understand, it's tough on the west coast. IMHO no one stacks up to Merckx (525 wins in 10 years (1 a week)) 5 tours, 5 Giros, World Hour record, couple Vueltas, most of the classics, owned Milan San Remo and holds Tour Stage and Yellow Jersey Records. Merckx even took a year off from the tour in his prime, damn.|| |
