the Euskatel riders (Laseika and ?) were selling themselves to try to bring him back and the Telekom boys were joining in (once Zabel caught back on) as I was leaving home. He lost alot of that lead in the last kms and the online description made it sound lke the chase was consistent just not enough.
He should have after Monday's stageDave Hickey

I really liked Tyler at the front telling the riders to slow until Lance caught up.

Ullrich had obviously slowed and was looking behind him constantly. Tyler took one of those switches on the inside and cut everyone off coming out of the turn to speak his mind. I'm already a big fan of both of them. It was nice to see them honor the race and the jersey the way they did. Typically, we only hear about that kind of stuff after the race.

OTOH: The Spanish were getting really greedy on that last climb. Mayo was tagging along for a ride on Armstrong's wheel at the point of the crash. He continued to do it until Lance unclipped. Mayo was attcking the front when lance was just getting back into the lead group. Once Lance went off the front the two Spaniards followed Jan all the way up and them nipped him at the line. I realize they were in the Basque county and wanted to have good results but those were cheesy strategies to acomplish the goals. If I were one the contenders, I would make a note of that for the future.

... if you were implying both the Spaniards nipped Ullrich at the line ... only Mayo was strong enough to enforce his crappy race tactic (my opinion) - Ullrich saved third.
Yes, but only by chance...they both tried to nip him (nm)biknben
