|Lance was already on an attack when his bar hooked that bag. It instantly dropped him about 100yds behind the pack. I wonder how much he would have won by if not for the crash. I say it could have been 2 minutes. Ulrich was clearly suffereing.
Damn French fans!!

|even French (more likely to be Basque) and why curse someone for an accident?
Anyway, Ullrich was pulling back Armstrong at the end of the stage and closing the gap, so maybe if Armstrong would have gone earlier he would have faded even more by the end and the gap would be even less, not more!
It's pointless speculation, but there wasn't that much time (distance) between the crash and when Armstrong attacked again. I'd be surprised if it was more than a km, and there's no way Armstrong was putting 2 minutes into Ullrich per kilometre (seems to me it was about 10-15 seconds, right?).

|Read Chris Charmichaels daily report on the TdF web page. He seems to agree with the opinion that Lance needed the crash to wake him up.|

|Lance was not pulling away from Ullrich when he went down. Jan was on him, and at the time (of crash) had him marked. I feel Lance would still have won the stage, but only by 15-25 seconds.|

|I just thought of those Chicago fans from the SNL skit. Daaaa Bears! Ditka vs god.... ditka by a touchdown. Mini-me lance vs the whole peloton... Lance by 3hrs and 6 minutes. Lance vs Ullrich without "The Bag"... Lance by 12 minutes.
Too many "what ifs" to really figure out what would have happened. To each his own I guess. Daaaa Lance.
