Wow - just noticed Lance's shifters...Larry Klassen

I noticed early on his levers were different (rear/right looking like regular Shimano STI, front looked more like a Campy or something). I knew he was using the new 10 speed DA based on XTR tech, but I just noticed today he has a downtube shifter for the front derailleur. Anyone know why?

Lance has always used a front downtube shifter on his climbing bike.

He basically shaves all of the weight he can off of the bike to get it to the legal limit for the climbs. This means a different front shifter for him.

Look back at all of the climbing stages of the past 4 tours and you will see the same thing.

the downtube front shifter allows him to better "trim" the front derailleur.
That's what I was thinking...but didn't he do this on flats alsoLarry Klassen

but I have to admit, watching all the other ones, I don't remember noticing that before. Maybe I did and didn't remember it. But this year, hasn't he been using that on flat stages as well? I didn't notice the downtube shifter, but I did notice the different front lever, ie. it didn't look STI.
Bad sign...even Lance couldn't afford the complete group. nmamflyer

I always thought this was just a Lance thing, but I was re-reading an old copy of Cycling Sport last night that was a tribute to Laurent Jalabert. I noticed in several different pic's that Ja Ja had the same setup.
H#ll, I used to have the same setup! (nm)MShaw
