I ask again, was Lance still on that same bike ...Humma Hah

... that he started the TdF with? Supposedly, the bike he did the cyclocross episode on was the same one he crashed in the big pileup in the first real day of racing (which required repairs).

Did he continue using that bike during the whole race? Whatever he was riding today, broke in what one would suppose was a relatively routine uphill crash.

This is an interesting side-story to the whole drama of this TdF. If he has, in fact, campaigned one abused climbing bike this far, that little sucker's sturdy beyond all reason, considering its weight.
Good question; I was wondering the same thing...James OCLV

Lance rode today on the 5900, not the new 5.9 "Madone" that he started the Tour with. I know that he had two "Madone's"; one he uses in training and the other that he races on. I can only guess that the 5.9 got damaged somehow...
I don't think you give bikes enough credit,TJeanloz

I routinely ride each of my sub-16 lbs. road bikes on dirt roads, singletrack, washboard, over-the-river-and-through-the-wood type rides. In fact, I'd say almost half of my "road" bike riding is not on a paved surface. Bikes are not all that fragile. Granted, rider weight has a bit to do with it, but bikes are tough. That an OCLV has held up doesn't surprise me at all.
He had 2 Mardone'sspookyload

If they change tires out to prevent flats every day, do you think they would have taken a chance on a bike with a busted BB from the crash? I don't think so. I know he did ride a regular 5900 like the rest of the boys for a while. So I think it is two Mardone's broken out of two for this years tour. Not good R&D for Trek's press releases. The truely ironic part is LA never even put a foot down in racing the four previous tours, no flats, crashes, or potty breaks. Now look at this year. What a nightmare. I wonder if this will be his favorite of the wins if he pulls it off.
