|Let me start by saying I'm not the world's biggest Lance fan. I well remember his attitude pre-cancer, and I find that Postal's tactics, while effective, make for some dull racing. But I have had a chance to meet him a few times and he struck me as a pretty humble human being given what he has accomplished.
I don't know how it is where you live, but here in Austin for the last year it has been nothing but "See Lance Drive For Five" and "Lance on his way to tying the record for most consecutive wins" and "can Lance win six? Seven? It's like because he won four in a row, a fifth one would be that much easier!
Lance is a smart enough guy to know just how hard five consecutive Tour wins is. But from the standpoint of marketing himself, he could hardly be expected to put a damper on that talk and those expectations. So he prepared the best he could. Perhaps that's not good enough to win this year - what can he do?

|Ya know, this is all making me wonder if he put too much concentration on marketing himself, which distracted him from his training.... He's certainly a very busy guy with everything he's into for his sponsors and for cancer awareness, not to mention his family. He's become a business and an icon, which is a big strain on a top level athlete who has to prepare for a 3-week event. After today's stage, what was he doing? The cameras showed him, atop the mountain, autographing a big stack of yellow jerseys (probably for cancer victims). I doubt any of the other riders were doing this sorta thing (maybe a few autographs, but nothing like this).... Hmmm... makes one wonder.....|

|Hopefully he's still got it to win, if anyone can suffer, its him|| |
