Aluminum vs. Carbon at TdF, also: pedalsMaRider

How many guys are riding aluminum as opposed to carbon bikes at this year's TdF? How many change from one to the other depending on the stage?

Also, what's up with the pedals? Everyone seems to be riding Speedplay this year, or am I wrong? I could swear a few years back it was mostly Look. Is this purely result of lobbying and marketing, or do the athletes have the final pick?
I meant Time, not Speedplay nmMaRider

whatever the sponsors give the team. Typically if a rider isn't using whatever the sponsor provides it's because either it doesn't work for that rider for some reason, or the rider has enough influence that he can use a produce he likes better, or gets personal contracts (i.e. paid) to use some other product.

As another poster noted, pedals are up to the team's sponsor - Time and Look sponsor more teams typically, though USPS is riding the new Shimanos and CSC ride Speedplay.
