I find myself not caring as much as I thought I would if Lance doesn't take his 5th in a row. In particular the performances of Tyler, Beloki, and Jan have shown that there are a lot of guys this year who deserve and desire to win this race, perhaps more than Lance wants it this year. In past years, there were other guys who perhaps wanted to win but not as bad as Lance did obviously but this year I am not so sure Lance has the biggest desire to win which is why I won't be completely heartbroken if he doesn't take number #5. Of course, the race isn't over yet and there is a lot of racing left but isn't it great how much better the race is this year with all the drama?!

I too have questioned myself when hearing things like "DIG DEEP JAN" or "C'MON TYLER" come out of my mouth. I'm a big Lance fan but I don't think it will break my heart if he doesn't win. I'm cheering for the Tour de France more than I'm cheering for any one guy. Think about this though...If/when Lance does win our memories of how Lance won 5 will be that much sweeter.
Like him in the underdog role better...peter1

Must be an American thing. Hero comes out of nowhere, becomes dominant, takes a fall...and then, the Comeback.

I was really rooting for Tyler this year, but also, i admit, for Jan, because he just flows so much on the bike. I was pointing out to my wife this morning how insanely low his TT position was. Plus, Jan seems like a genuinely nice guy who made a few bad decisions over the years, but he's never disrespected the sport, or put down other riders.

Re Lance, tho. I hope if he doesn't win that it has nothing to do with his overall health, but rather with his cycling fitness...that's all I'll say.
I agree too...Ben S

At this point, it will be much more interesting and memorable if LA takes control in the Pyrenees and goes on to win. Anything short of that will be disappointing, even if LA wins. There may be other riders AND other teams with more desire to win the Tour this year than LA or the Posties. Next year, I'll take Tyler from the start.
