Question about bones, supplements, and wreckssacheson
Jul 14, 2003 1:49 PM
As a medical type, seeing Beloki's crash today raised a question I thought I'd ask that stems from articles I've read, and discussions I've overheard about certain supplements decreasing bone density.

Does anyone in the know have insight to any correlation between the apparent increased frequency of broken bones and supplement consumption, or is it coincedence, or am I smoking crack and there is not an increase in the number of bones breaking within the last couple of years?

supplement usage is more common to have muscle pulls and tears than bone breakage. Look at major league baseball, relatively out of shape guys (cardio vascularly), juiced on muscle builders (many of which dehydrate muscle tissue), who don't stretch and are inactive most of the duration of their sport, suddenly accelerate for a ball or running to a base. Why all the hamstring, quad and arm pulls. I think bone breakage (unless it's where a muscle pulls a piece of bone away at the attachment) is unrelated unless possible damage from HGH but I think this rare in cycling.
