Do you think the helmet saved Beloki's life? He probably will be more seriously injured without it.

did you see him land on his head?

helmets protect heads. they dont protect elbows, wrists and femurs.

Hard to say, his head didn't touch the ground until all momentum from tumbling and slidding had pretty much stopped. On the otherhand, it did look like it hit with some force when it did.

End result, I don't know.

... at that speed, it doesn't take much imagination to come up with a wreck where it would.

Fer instance ... what if Armstrong had NOT swerved left into the field (something that could easily have turned out very badly), and, unable to go right, had just run Beloki over? From the photos, it is likely Beloki's head would have been slammed into the pavement. Also obvious: an industrial-duty athletic cup could have been useful safety equipment, too.
