|Coming down the final decent, Beloki locks up his rear brake going into a corner and goes down. He's out of the tour with bad injuries to his elbow. Lance was right on his wheel and has to go off road to avoid him--I'm sure you'll see this one on Sports Center tonight. Lance takes to the dirt at a horseshoe bend and goes straight to the road on the other side! And people knock him for doing cyclocross in the off season...
What a shame for Beloki--the guy was racing very, very well.

|... to lose, for anyone who ever thought the race was "in the bag." Which, obviously, it isn't. One piece of gravel on a hard turn, a little sand, brakes slightly warmer than you thought ... if you are not pushing to almost crash on these downhills, you don't win.
He was apparently second, and the whole peloton had to slow down and go around him ... Armstrong supposedly resorted to a bit of high-speed cyclocross. That changed almost everyone but the leader's time by about 16 seconds, maybe a little more. Talk about a significant result!
