Blow yourself out just to win a few stages?

Sprinters -vs- climbers... where's the overall training?

I guess everyone has different objectives...

or at least minimally, anything to do with training. It's about where one's talent lies.

we all know there are climbers and sprinters etc...

If you're gonna blow yourself up just to win a few stages and not finish the first week of the tour, then how can anyone take you seriously as an athlete? That's why I questioned the training and conditioning aspect of Petacchi.

Granted, Lance didn't finish the first tour he entered but do you really think Petacchi is of that caliber?

Now, look at what it has done to rest of the Fassa team:
Stage 8 withdrawls
#85 Volodymir GUSTOV ( UKR ) - FASSA BORTOLO Non Partant
#84 Aitor GONZALEZ ( ESP ) - FASSA BORTOLO Non Partant

Think they deserve to get an invite next year???
Deserving or not...Dwayne Barry

they'll be there as an ultimatic invite, and to be fair apparently the team (not Petacchi though) has been struck with a virus that is causing the high drop-out rate.

Again it has nothing to do with "caliber". Petacchi is a pro because he can win sprints and thus get his team exposure. Saying he's not of the caliber as Armstrong is like comparing apples to oranges. Is Armstrong not the caliber of Petacchi because he doesn't (can't) rub shoulders with the big boys in the final kms of stage and then win a bunch sprint?
Just heard 'bout the Fassa "virus" today...spyderman

What's message does this send Leblanc? Will Petacchi have a hard time getting his team invited in the future?
Mon Dieu!!! The sonofabitch pulled a Mario on him.Sintesi

I guess Leblanc is going to have to keep all the Italians out in the future just to be safe.

BTW, Has Kirsipuu ever finished a Tour? Why doesn't he get banned as well? Really, this whole deal is about those Stars and Stripes shorts Mario wore back in '97. Leblanc has never got a good night's sleep since then.
