|Today: "I am demoralized," Simoni said. "I started today's stage dreaming of taking the yellow jersey, but some riders on my team were not as strong as we expected. I don't know what happened. This changes everything."
"The team time trial Wednesday is the next big day. I've shown my team mates I'm going well and after seeing how they rode I know they are going well too.
"All they have to do is follow me and work together and we can have another great day.
"Who knows? Perhaps this is Simoni's year and not Armstrong's."
Pre-tour quote from Armstrong:
"I watched all the Giro's stages on TV and Simoni impressed me in the mountains. But I've engraved what he said on my hard disk - and it only makes me more determined."

|I am thoroughly amazed sometimes at how some of these guys can get their team to ride for them when you see comments like these. Simoni, Pantani, Millar - they've all said the same things recently. It's why we Tyler is the coolest human being on earth right now.|

|He knows how to handle the media, the Tour organizers, his team and the rest of the field. He measures his words and does not provide anything for the press or his rivals, to spin into something negative. He never diminishes what his rivals are capable of. In other words he doesn't provide bulletin board fodder :O)|

|My impression, which has been mentioned by a number of pundits, is that Lance's motivation fuels on others telling him he can't do something or another rider or team boasting that they will win this or that. It sure stokes his fire.
