sucked, some people (like me) thought (wrongly) they could be beat in the TTT though.
The real surprise was Bianchi (and Ibanesto) riding so well, as a lot of pundits said that was a weak team.

And predictably Simoni and the Eskatel guys got the hurt put on them. Which may make the mountain stages more exciting if they still have GC ambitions as they will have to attack from far out.
Wasn't directing anything at you ...sacheson

... I was more trying to be funny. I guess it didn't come out right.

FWIW, there are plenty of anti-Postal people and anti-Postal comments flying about.
Oh don't get me wrong....Dwayne Barry

I'm anti-postal, actually more anti-Armstrong but that doesn't mean I lack the ability to look at the race somewhat objectively.

is this a troll and are you always so shallow? you have issues or something? know about adults words and Lance's fitness??

1) not a troll. Just trying to poke a little fun at the people who were critical of Lance and Postal team after the prologue and the first 3 stages.
2) Shallow? Where was I being shallow?
3) Issues - yes. Mostly with people who read too much into posts on discussion lists.
4) please explain "know about adults words". Not quite following you on that one.
5) Lance's fitness? Again, not following you.

Sounds like some people need to lighten up a little AND learn some basic sentence structure.

big wad of people in the top ten after last year's TTT? Not like THIS, but a lot?
Yeah, I think it was 7...Dwayne Barry
Jul 9, 2003 8:07 AM
it's pretty much a guarauntee that whichever team wins a team time trial is going to flood the top of the GC ranking. Postal got so many guys up there because they won by such a dominating margin and didn't drop anyone.
Yup - truly incredible!! If this isn'ta sign then what is? (nm)jtferraro

17 H 10 - Seven Posties Lead The Overall Classification...
The US Postal victory in today's team time trial stage was so dominant that seven of the American-registered team's riders will be at the top of the overall classification. They are: 1. Pena; 2. Armstrong; 3. Ekimov; 4. Hincapie; 5. Rubiera; 6. Heras; 7. Landis... we await official confirmation of this top 10 places...

Who's your Daddy?
Shoot, it wasn't seven posties in the lead...MXL02

all that whining about "no drama," yea right!terry b
Jul 9, 2003 7:35 AM
For all those whining about "no drama in the Tour because of Lance" I say "you're looking in the wrong place." Man, what a stage! Listening to it live here in the office got me going. Of course I'm glad that Postal nailed it, but even if it had been another team, what a stage and what a finish! The drama is still there, you just have to be open to it.
Final Podium Placings ?El Guapo
Jul 9, 2003 7:42 AM
Team Time Trial Results:
1. US Postal
2. Once
3. Bianchi
Final Podium Placings in Paris ???:
1. Armstrong
2. Beloki (always a brides maid, never a bride)
3. Ullrich
Interesting if it plays out this way.
That's my bet! (nm)jtferraro

Jul 9, 2003 10:53 AM
Whatever - you're pathetic. I enjoyed Postal's victory too, but you're really classless to call Simoni a tool or claim that he's not worthy of USPS. In the absence of LA,they'd gladly take him, I can assure you. Moreover, how many Giros have you won?!?! A donkey by any other name is an ass and your braying is annoying...
Why don't people like Simoni?Dwayne Barry

The guy races with real panache. And races often, showing himself in many races and being a factor even if he's not on 100% form.

4th fastest ever TDF team trial ...Humma Hah
Jul 9, 2003 8:48 AM
Doug's link reported the three best times in kph. They reported, at ONCE's finish, that ONCE had done the 4th fastest pace. The Big Blue Train finished 17 seconds faster a few minutes later, but still 13.16 sec slower than the pace needed to have done the 3rd fastest.

I blame it on headwinds and poor pavement condition.

A great race. Maybe they could have done even faster, but beating prior records doesn't count ... fast enough to win counts. Any faster is bad strategy.
