I swear I heard him say this during yesterdays' stage, near the end, just before they caught Finot:

"Very soon the peloton will be breathing down his pants"

I have it on tape, but haven't had time to replay it to confirm my hearing.

I think that I heard that too. At first it made sense....then my over-active 12 yr old imagination turned it into a bizarre image. I am not sure that the peleton would want to "breath down his pants". Very amusing!

He actually said..."soon the peleton will be breathing down the seat of his pants" Which I suspect is a hybrid of the phrases "breathing down his neck" and "flying by the seat of his pants" combined to make one very humorous mental image.
Classic.

the peloton, all hunched over their bikes trying to pull him back, would have their heads just about at butt level. so in effect, they really would be breathing down his pants. ;)
Was Finot "cracking" at that point? nmserbski
