|In Cyclesport he says, "I am going to the Giro to win...I'll be ready...I will be team leader..How am I going to win it? Losing as little time as possible in the mountains"
Before the real mountains even began, Aitor's 13.12 behind.
He lost over 6 minutes on a rolling stage. By comparison, Marco Pantani is about 5 minutes behind overall.
He might have cracked under the pressure he put on himself.
In any case, his team director Giancarlo Ferretti might not even throw him up against Lance if he can't even hold hold his own against Pantani and Tonkov.

|we'll see in July. Not defending Aitor but Dario is riding as bad. Fassa gets enough publicity with Petacchi and they might be saving their GC guns.|

|was too many cocktails. Patient my rear. Fassa is an Italian company and the Giro means the world to them. You wouldn't save your GC guns, you may divide them, say Basso at the Giro and Aitor at the Tour, but they didn't. Aitor laid it down and now must eat his words.|

|Considering that he has very little racing to this point, it is obvious that the Giro is a training race for him. Frigo did well early this year, but is having a hard time as he probably peaked too early!
Look for Aitor on the last few mountain finishes, and definitely in the TTs.
Come July, Fassa Bartolo can be very, very good if all peak at the right time.

|yup but that doesn't put you on the podium for the Giro as he stated.
maybe team had a change in plans, I think Aitor's lack of form dictated that change and not a team directive that dictated his late blooming.
