Why even show up? <Stage 5 spoiler>Spunout

So, Cipo is 25 minutes behind, and his team holds a top spot of 77th in the GC. For a couple of sprints, it be-littles the efforts of the true stage-race contenders.

Team rank, I think they are probably dead last. If this were a golf tournament, they'd miss the cut. No prize money. Thanks for comin' out. C-ya.

They managed to cause alot of crashes in the finish yesterday, I don't think the pack was prepared for the traffic circles at 60km/h.

It seems very un-sportsmanlike. I wonder if the whole team withdraws on Sunday?

Aqua & Sapone are a one year team. They will be no more after this season so unless they think they can contend they might quit. Mario doesn't need them at the worlds but then again the UCI might take a dim view on such a move.

True, I forgot that the team was finished.

Best they can do would be to have Cipo's leadout men selected for the Italian team for the worlds.

Do you think, that it would be better that way? Better than a bunch of superstars feuding over who gets led out.

I think Mario could win it with the right team. Look at his classics record this year. A & S was totally dominant when they chose to be. The Italians are always shooting themselves in the foot in the worlds because of their selfishness and lack of team play. WHo was that Italian that led the chase back on Simoni after he had gotten away last year? It was unbelievable - Simoni had the race bagged and his own countryman leads everyone right up to his wheel.

Everyone in cycling knows about Cipo. Everyone knows his history of pulling out of grand tours. Everyone knows he will do again.

If you select him to ride in your race, don't be surprised if he drops out.

As for causing crashes and being unsportsmanlike, that's crap. This is the big time, and if you can't ride with the big boys, get off the road. No one was obligated to follow the A&S train. Everyone wanted to. I'll bet no one in the race had the same complaints you do.

Not 'causing crashes' deliberately.

Because they only have three days of riding left, they can pump it up on that finish, increasing the risk for everyone else who is in it for the whole race.

There were comments about the finish by the riders, the course was very bad at the speed they were doing.
The course was bad, but...DeRanger

...that's a problem caused by the organizers, not the racers. A&S and everyone else was going to push pretty hard on that stage, traffic circles or not.

DeR (...sad that Laisaika got knocked out of the race...)
