|Riders have radio receivers that fit in their back pockets. They have earpieces and microphones that (I think) pin to their jersey.
If you get a chance, watch The Road To Paris, the Nike Documentary which follows the USPS team for a month prior to the tour. They've recorded a lot or rider-to-car and car-to-rider radio transmissions, and you can hear Johan Bruyneel exhorting various team members, relaying the time of a gap to breakaway groups, George Hincapie saying "I need help!" or "I have a flat" during Paris-Roubaix. They also have an amusing section in one race where the radios work horribly.

|at last years tour it was radio trouble that sent Lance back to the team car. It was doing this that allowed him the big I'm bonking bluff on Ald d'Huez. He went back to the car to fix it, they realized everybody was wondering what was up and he pulled the biggest fake out in recent history.|| |
