OLN's "Ride of the Day" crap (sort of spoiler)(10 posts)

OLN's "Ride of the Day" crap (sort of spoiler)DougSloan

Yesterday, Stage 11, OLN declared, surprise, Lance as having the Ride of the Day. Bullshit! If anyone, it was Heras or Jaja. Heras pulled Lance's butt up the mountain, and Jaja showed more guts than anyone out there. All (sort of) Lance did was sprint up the final stretch to take the win.

If they are just going to declare the winner of the day's stage the Ride of the Day, then why not just call it that?

Crap.

declared Lance as having the ride of the day. I couldn't believe they didn't give it to Heras.
I agree 100%, they need to call it what it is: "Winner's Ride"Wannabe

There was the one stage won by Karsten Kroon where they rightly awarded "Ride of the Day" to Dekker. Dekker didn't win--he came in third. I'm sure whoever picks this thing got Dekker and Kroon mixed up, and is probably now out of a job! You're fired you idiot, don't you know it's always the winner!!!

By the way, I'd add Zabel and Hincapie to the list of candidates yesterday. Neither deserves to win compared to Heras or Jaja or Lance, but they did some outstanding riding, too.
Totally Agree w/ all posts. (nm)skyfallen

on Monday with Phil and Paul and give them a piece of your mind - during the OLN open chat (I think 2pm est.) with a dozen or so posters airing comments on this matter- perhaps they will bring it up w/ the producers of the show?? At least you will get a comment like "some of the carcasses online felt that more credit should have gone to Heras or Ja Ja"

anyway, couldn't agree more w/ you and will tell them so on Monday.

Should of been Haras or JaJa. Not Lance nmPhatMatt

How can you say it should have gone to Jaja? Just because he led the race at the beginning? He still lost by over 3 minutes! That's not good riding.

not good riding??? he led a breakaway, most of it solo, for long enough to capture the polka dots jersey. I think that qualifies as a damn good ride.

is that it leaves so much room for discussion and conflicting opinions. Each day can have only one stage winner, but lots of riders can make significant contributions throughout the course of the event. It looks to me like the easy way out to just semi-automotically give it to the stage winner.

The escort the Postal squad gave Lance in the first mountain stage was a perfect textbook example of how it should be done. I'd have wanted to recognize that effort with ride of the day status for the whole team.
