More thoughts on Armstrongs time trial...(8 posts)

More thoughts on Armstrongs time trial...Ron B
Jul 17, 2002 7:06 PM
Watching today's tour coverage they interviewed Chris Carmichael. He said that after they analyzed Lance's heart rate for the time trial he said he averaged 181 bpm. Lance usually averages around 187+ for a time trial of that length.

They were giving the general reasons of lack of rest, dehydration, etc. as possible causes. All of which could be very true.

It could also mean that Lance didn't go as hard as he usually does for the time trial, saving him self for the mountains and letting Once lead for a little while longer. Lance does have a very good bluffing face.

Just some interesting information and thoughts. I'm ready to watch the mountains the rest of the week.

I think you're right - LA shifted his focus on the mtns. this year instead of the TT's.

On an intersting note, during yesterday's stage coverage Phil Ligget was quoted as saying that he thinks LA is going to win the Tour by upwards of 10 minutes...
What does Phil Liggett know...Old_school_nik

He's only done 30 Tours de France's - you don't really know your talking about until you have done 35 at least!

I used to think that Phil Ligget was annoying, but I now think that watching a bike race w/o him would be like eating a cake w/o the icing...

Listen to some races with comentary from someone else and you too will grow to appreciate PL.
Oh, I like hearing him and enjoy hisscottfree

crazed commentary. He's still a pinhead though. He just says anything that comes into his head, makes wild predictions, calls races/sprints/times well before anything's decided and is almost always wrong ... He is the ABSOLUTE master of hyperbole, LITERALLY exploding with HUGE verbal excesses ... MASSIVE excesses ... But all that said, I enjoy him very much, and wouldn't want anyone else calling the race.

Paul, though ... Whew. He has all of Phils faults but none of his virtues.
