Jul 16, 2002 5:17 AM | | Just wondering - has anyone ever led the TDF for the entire race, stage 1 to the end? Also, when was the last time someone won the TDF and the road World Championship in the same year? (I think it might have been Lemond in '89, but I'm not sure). |

Jul 16, 2002 7:03 AM | | Someone did once, in the 30's if memory serves, lead the tour wire to wire. Aquatel (sp?)came the closest to doing it again but lost the jersey for a day. I don't think anyone else has come even close. |

Merkxx came very close one year but I believe he didn't have it TECHNICALLY for the first stage. Read Graeme Fife's "Tour de France" for all the trivia on Le Tour you could dream of!
