| History / Trivia questions | OffTheBack Jul 16, 2002 5:17 AM | | Just wondering - has anyone ever led the TDF for the entire race, stage 1 to the end? Also, when was the last time someone won the TDF and the road World Championship in the same year? (I think it might have been Lemond in '89, but I'm not sure). |
| Merckx? | Wayne Jul 16, 2002 5:35 AM | | that's a total guess but if anybody has done either of those feats it's most likely to be him! |
| some one did lead it wire to wire | Jekyll Jul 16, 2002 7:03 AM | | Someone did once, in the 30's if memory serves, lead the tour wire to wire. Aquatel (sp?)came the closest to doing it again but lost the jersey for a day. I don't think anyone else has come even close. |
| not sure of tour start to end but LeMond | Old_school_nik Jul 16, 2002 10:16 AM | | was last to win champs and tdf same year Stephen Roche also won Giro, TDF and Worlds in 87 (I think)

| 2 riders have done the first to last... | EJC Jul 16, 2002 11:16 AM | | ...but that was back in the 20's.
Merkxx came very close one year but I believe he didn't have it TECHNICALLY for the first stage. Read Graeme Fife's "Tour de France" for all the trivia on Le Tour you could dream of!

| I think | Pack Meat Jul 17, 2002 9:26 AM | | Bottechia did it in the 20s. I heard Phil say that technically Anquatil (sp) lost the jersey for half a day. Lemond was the last one to do the double. Before that I pretty sure it was Roche that did the triple in 88. |
| half a day? | DougSloan Jul 17, 2002 9:59 AM | | I heard that, too. How do you lose the jersey for half a day?
