A rest day question: I'm just curious why Ullrich is not wearing Telekom colors? Is there a significance to his white jersey?

JU won the German National Championship road race just before the TdF started. The jersey he is wearing honors that victory.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the jersey is the world champion jersey won at he Olympics last year. I believe that's the rainbow jersey.
World Champion jersey not for Olympic champ...Cima Coppi

Its a different event, and JU does not wear a jersey for being the Olympic champion. Last year, JU won the World Championship in the ITT, and he wore the rainbow jersey when he rode the TT's. This year the jersey he wears bears the colors of Germany as the German Nat. Champ.

The rainbow is being worn by Roman Vainstains of Domo Farm Frites.

Jan does wear the German National Champion jersey. The colors are the same as the tricolor German flag.

The world championship jersey is not won at the Olympics. You don't get a jersey for winning the Olympics, although I think you should. You do get a nice medal, however. Pascal Richard (1996 gold medal winner) had his own jersey made, but the IOC threatened to sue him for using the logo!

The world championship jersey is the rainbow jersey, currently worn by Roman Vainstiens of Domo, who is still in the tour last I heard. Former champions tend to have rainbows on their sleeves and collars. Armstrong is a former road race champion, so he wears stripes. Jan is a double world champion (time trial and under-23 road), but he never wears the stripes. When Jan was the reigning TT champion, he did wear the rainbow jersey, but only during time trials.

Thanks: you are correct, as you already know. My memory was that they didn't have a professional road race in the same year as the olympics, but that's not correct. From a distance, that jersey does appear remarkably like the rainbow jersey. Guess I should have OLN.
Thanks! It's great to have knowledgable folks on this forum (nm)Warren128
