Lance time to raise the barmarkD

Lance made me ride better this morning, he makes all of us ride better this week. He will be remember as one of the greats. Thanks Lance.

Now for next year, will lance win both the GIRO and LE TOUR, YES I believe so. Will he become one of several mentioned when asked, Who is the all time greatest cyclist?

If lance does the double next year (Giro and Le Tour)and wins both my answer to the above question would be Lance Armstrong, Lance Armstrong and then there is always Lance Armstrong.

Next would be Eddy M then Coppi?

What do you think?

I think one day at a time. Lance is a great cyclist, both physically and mentally. Anyone who saw his stage at L'Alpe D'Huez has to respect both his technique and his tactical ability.

Certainly it appears that the Tour is his to lose. Ullrich can't gain 5 minutes on a man who appears to have no problem sticking to his wheel. Only an accident, injury or illness could impede Armstrong now.

But before you put him up against Eddie M, let him win 5. That's not to say he won't or can't, simply that he hasn't yet.

To be compared to Eddy M he's going to have to win more than the Tour and the occasional Tour de Suisse and semi-classic. No one seriously compares Indurain to Merckx because Merckx won everything that mattered, not only the Tour. I'd be inclined to put Armstrong along side of Indurain and Anquteil, not at all shabby company in anyone's book, but he's got a long way to go to be up there with Merckx.

To my knowledge, Lance has never even ridden the Giro d'Italia. I don't see why he'd change what has been a successful formula anytime soon. He has a long way to go before he reaches 'greatest cyclist'. In the modern era, I don't think anybody can touch Merckx' palmares.
