OK, time to put our collective expertise to the test. What will tomorrow's results be (podium). I say 1.LA, 2.Herr Kaiser, 3. Moreau. Let's see who the real experts are 24 hours from now.

Ulrich may take the stage tomorrow. The climb is less steep and may favor Ulrich rather than Lance. Lance destroys people on the +10% climbs but Ullrich's power may work better on the Chamrousse climb which is only 7.2% and constant, l'Aple d'Huez is an average of 7.9 but it has sections of 12% and 13% which is where he attacked.

So here goes.

1. Ullrich
2. Armstrong '34
3. Beloki 1'23
4. Moreau 2'12
5. Gonzalez Galdeano 2'37

We'll see. I'm not too concerned with Lance's conditioning because look at the 99 Tour. After the TT in Metz he came out and blew everyone away on Sestriere the next day, plus he has a rest day te next day so he doesnt have to worry about blowing up on the next stage so he can go all out with no remorse. I still have a hard time seeing him take Ullrich out, at least on this stage. I hope he proves me wrong though.
Good points, very possible. NMLazy

As you said, LA does very well above a certain% grade, below that, ullrichs powerful, big gear style works very well.
JU ans LA were in a different league today, but i give tomorrow to Jan.
We'll see.

If Lance beats Ullrich the Tour is over, the people may of just pack up and leave, save some energy. Yeah Lance will have to catch Simon and Kivelev but Ullrich will not be able to take it psychologically if he loses tomorrow, give Lance a 3 min lead and all he has to do is ride in Ullrich's pocket and cash in on the Tour in Paris.

Trust me on this, Ullrich can't afford to loose any time to Lance now that he knows what Lance can do. Lance will finish with Ullrich on the Pyrenees climbs and then a quick jaunt through the Massif Central and then there is no way in hell Lance can loose 2-3 min to Ullrich in a TT. 1-1:30 is possible worse case scenario barring crash/flat.

Two thing:

First the Alps are very different to the Pyrenees as the climbs are much longer and less steep. This favours Ullrich as he's more of a steady climber.

Secondly Kivilev and Simon are still a BIG bit away. The Russian only ost 4 minute n Lance up Alp D'Huez. Now Lance has to find a way to do that another 5 times before they're equal.

Its gonna be VERY tight.

More importantly, how much time will Lance get back on Kivilev & Simon?
