I am looking for any input. A couple of friends and I are kicking around the idea of doing the entire length sometime next year. Our general plan is 3 of us ride, one drives to that nights' destination then rides back to the other three.

My questions??
450 miles..doable in four riding days??
Mountains, hills???
Can we camp along the route? Showers? food? bathrooms?
Direction? We would probably go north to south...
Time of year?? I would like to do it in April or May

I bought a book on cycling the NT. It is very informative. I would appreciate any input. If anyone wants to join us, let me know.

I believe I remember MB1 and Miss M doing this ride. At one point I also found a website documenting this trip from Jackson, MS north to Nashville.

It's mainly rolling hills--bigger in Tennessee than North Mississippi. You can camp or stay in cheap motels just off the Trace.

I have some friends in Tupelo, MS that don't like riding it during "rush hour" because of traffic. Quite a few people use it to commute into Tupelo. Besides Jackson and Nashville, that's the only communtiy with a population over 100,000 along the Trace.

The Trace around Jackson is under heavy construction right now. See the link below to give you a detour. You also might email the site owner for updates. I will also check on the status next time I'm down in Jackson.

That time of year should be good, with obviously unpredictable weather--especially April.

I won't post this yet on the General board since we haven't decided if we are doing it or not. Maybe April isn't such a good idea...maybe May. My concern is the logistics of finding a campground and food each night. The good news is the OK from my wife. I mentioned the potential trip last night as I was reading a book on cycling the trace, and she thought it was a great idea. For me. Not her. THanks again.Paul
