|Has anyone here ever ridden this from Idaho Springs to Central City? A friend and I are doing a credit card tour in Colorado in a couple of weeks, and the final day will be Idaho Springs to Boulder. Our first choice is to get onto the Peak-to-Peak highway to Nederland and then to Boulder. But I hear that US6 is closed to bikes, and that 119 from I-70 to Central City is not fun due to casino traffic. So we were thinking about OMG road. I hear that most of it is unpaved, but is it doable on a road bike (we won't be heavily loaded).

|It is doable. In fact, the Saturn Classic used to go down this road from Central City to Idaho Spring. You are correct as far as it being unpaved but it is a fun ride.|

|If you don't do that, I certainly would not recommend the route you've suggested. Not only is Peak-to-Peak heavy on casino traffic, but Boulder Canyon (the road from Nederland to Boulder) is an absolute no-no, IMHO, for road riding. Heavy traffic, lots of curves, and NOT SAFE. There are plenty of good canyon roads between the front range and peak-to-peak hwy, but that is NOT one of them.
You can go from Idaho Springs west and eventually go through Golden and then on to Boulder (several different variations available, including up and over Lookout Mtn).
I have not ridden OMG Road.

|Thanks for the feedback. Heading West along the I-70 frontage road and over Lookout Mountain into Golden is Plan B. I rode Boulder Canyon about 15 years ago and it didn't seem too bad, but it wouldn't shock me if traffic is quite a bit worse these days.|| |
