I would like to know what is the best way of doing high intensity workouts.
Are these normally done on the small chain ring just spinning very fast.
Is it best to do these workout climbing hills.

|1. Intervals - either by yourself outside or by yourself on the trainer
2. Hill repeats - just recover fully before you start each one
3. Hard paceline rides - your "interval" is when you take your pull up front
4. Hard group rides - usually have a town line sprint or a section of the ride where the pace goes thermonuclear
5. Training race - especially those with primes; those are great interval workouts in their own right
For me, I do my structured (2x min on/1x min off etc.) indoors where things are a little more controlled. Back in the day when I had more time to ride, I would do a 2-3 hour loop with the first hour warmup, the second hour a series of 3-5 min intervals at race pace (or >180bpm or whatever) with appropriate recovery between each set.
