...a month or two ago to ask some questions about their tours. They never responded to my email. Not real confidence inspiring.

I've talked to the owner twice on the phone. He runs a couple of businesses so his summertime tour business isn't number one on his list in the winter. Give him a phone call...nice guy.

I am booked for the week of the 7th to 15th of June. I gave them a deposit early to save the extra $50.00

What sold me was firstly the time frame, it fit perfectly with my vacation. The second was the area, gotta love the Blue ridge moutains. If it was good enough for Lance!!!. Plus thirdly the price, it was right in the range that I wanted to spend.

Oh, and that there was a place to park my car for the week so I did not have to spend money on traveling there.

All of the above...especially the fact that I can drive there. I live in the Cincinnati area so its 'just' a 5-6 hour drive. Too bad we're not doing it the same week...

Have fun. Please post after your trip on your experiences.

So, I'm flying out to Colorado for the Pedal the Peaks tour. It will cost me about another $200...not bad for a trip to colorado. Paul

Just checked out your messages, what the heck happened to the Blue ridge tour. I have'nt heard a thing about any cancelations. They will be taking my final payment soon.

I was on a club ride this morning and talked to a few of the guy's that were there in March and they said the riding is fantastic. The four of them just winged it on there own and said they had a great time.

Hope the new trip works out. I will fill you in when I get back.

Just been informed that my trip/Tour has been squashed.

You were correct one of the founders has died (cancer)

well, looks like it will be a non tour year again.

So sad. Apparently the gentleman who died only started feeling symptoms of headaches a few weeks ago. He had a very aggressive form of brain cancer.

On a selfish note .... I wish they had let me know a week sooner. Cancelling on my May 1st (vs. April 30th) cost me $170 more in airfare and an extra $50 in tour fees. Oh well. They have a lot more on their minds than us. Such a sad situation.

Crewman...change your vacation time and join me on the Pedal the Peaks tour. It is a www.cycleamerica.com tour. Once I figured out airfare vs. driving (@$.50 per mile) I'm guessing that the entire trip will cost me about $100 more to go to Colorado. Paul

This whole tour idea has been driving me nuts right from day one. I did get my vacation changed to the week of the 21st, by absolute chance one of my co-workers cancelled a week vacation and that left the week free.

Now, I checked out the web site and printed off the application. I am looking at flights right now. This could be the problem for me.

How are you getting your bike there and are you going to use the camping option? (I will have to to save the "O" mighty dollar). Lucky for me my canadain dollar is the strongest it has been in 5 years.

Flights were my problem too...but I've found times that work and I've just sucked up the expense. I'm using their $30 shuttle service to/fro the airport.

My bike...I haven't decided. I would like to save the $$ and UPS it there, but then I'd be without a bike for a week before and a week after. And who knows if UPS would get my bike there in time. My general thought is to fly there with the bike on the plane, then use the cycleamerica shipping deal to have UPS take it home. I figure after 500 miles in one week, I'll be able to do without the bike for a few days after the tour.

Camping....me too. I talked to a Cycleamerica rep who gave me a good idea. He said 80% of the people camp everynight, so that you would miss the 'feel' of the trip if you hoteled it. His idea was to camp Sat/Sun/Mon, get a hotel Tues/Wed nights, then camp the next three nights. We ride into Steamboat Springs Tuesday night and have an off day there on Wednesday - hence, a good time to stay in a hotel. That's my general plan. He said the hotels run from $50 to $100 per night. Admittedly, I am a cheap bast**d - so I'll look for the best deal on a hotel - Days Inn, Comfort Inn, etcc...anything with a bed and a shower. After you pay the fee, they should send a packet with hotel name and numbers. Cycleamerica has reserved a block of rooms at each hotel.
