Good rides around Cape May, NJ?Humma Hah

My wife asked me this morning about vacationing around Cape May, NJ, and wondered if it would be a good place to take the bikes, maybe even go when there's a cycling event. She's not much on hills.

Are there any good bike routes or events in that area?

Well, if you don't like hills...Cape May, NJ is the place.. it's very very flat down there... I suggest you pick up a book by Arline Zatz called "30 bicycle tours in New Jersey" You should be able to search for author or title in any online store and I've seen them locally in NJ barnes and nobles and borders books. There is a nice 60 mile loop that goes north on the west side of the Garden State Parkway (GSP), passes a historic village and crosses the GSP into stone harbor. (check out Springer's Ice Cream and the Audubon Society's bird sanctuary and env. center on the road that crosses the GSP) Then it turns south through North Wildwood, Wildwood (boardwalk, beachs, amusement parks) back into Cape May. The cue sheet is in that book..

Or you can try your luck at Uncle Barns for Cape May county, NJ:

Check out the main URL, cause I see you have to email the guy and he'll send you the Cue sheet in a HTML format (usually very fast)

... My daily training ride is 23 miles and 1230 ft of climbing, pretty flat by my way of thinking, no climb of more than about 100 ft at 5%, but its too hilly for her.

I've also been looking for a flat place where I might make a personal distance attempt. I've never gone past 140 miles in a day on my cruiser, and think I might crack 160 now if I could find a suitably flat place.

I'll check that URL as soon as the systems lets me ... for some reason the link is not responding at the moment.

Have you tried looking for websites of bike clubs local to Cape May and South Jersey? The Shore Cycling Club, if I recall the name correctly, may be running events you'd like to join.
