Nov 13, 2003 3:49 PM | | Anyone have any info on this Gitane I picked out of the attic of the LBS? "Racing Team" decal on right chainstay, few other identifiers. Check out the rear dropouts.

Nov 14, 2003 5:41 AM | | The centerpull brakes and clips holding the brake cable to the top tube make it mid-to-late 70's. The brake levers and maybe the crank were probably added later. Where are the shift levers? |

Nov 16, 2003 5:36 AM | | I agree that it looks like a mid-70s bike with some maybe 1980s parts installed later. If it's sat in the LBS that long parts were probably lifted from time to time. I can't tell for sure with the picture but I don't see a rear derailleur cable. What decals are on the bike? |

Nov 18, 2003 2:03 PM | | The bike had Simplex clamp on downtube shifters, rear and front derailleurs and Mafac centerpull brakes. The shifters and derailleurs came off to create my single speed project and I just replaced the centerpulls with a set of Tektro long reach calipers. No other decals (ie. Columbus, Reynolds)on the bike aside from the "Gitane" decals. Will post a close up of the rear drop outs. |
