|my early 70's(best to my knowledge) moto has 27" wheels and my roomates unknown but nice lightweight vintage also has 27" wheels.
when and why did 700c become standard size wheel for road bikes? what was the disadvantage of the 27" wheel that it's no longer found on modern road bikes?

|700c was equal in size to tubular (sew-up) tires, so switching from one to the other was easy - no brake adjustments...27 inch wheels are a little larger in diameter. Late 80's - early 90's 27 inch wheels began to go the way of the leather helmet...|| |
