stronglight cranks work with shimano bb?moschika

can i use a shimano bb with stronglight cranks? i have to replace the original stronglight bb and i just picked up a shimano replacement from my LBS. but the taper on the shimano bb spindle doesn't seem to go as far into the crank arm as the stronglight spindle. this is for my moto i've posted about before.

is it ok to just bolt down on the crank arm as far as it goes or do i have to purchase another bb? if so what brand? stronglight? where?

thanks

i think my bb is french threaded. both cups tighten as i turn them to the right. so i doubt the shimano bb will work. at least this is what i'm gathering from sheldon brown's website.

does this sound right?

Whether a BB works with a crank doesn't have to do with its threading (that determines whether it'll work with the frame), but with the axle length and spindle taper. It sounds like your BB and crank have incompatible tapers. Get a different BB, lest you destroy your crank.

in both cases the bb wouldn't have worked. on one side of the bb the cartridge would thread in properly. having a right thread on both sides doesn't help when one side of the cartridge needed to be left threaded.

also the spindle taper wasn't compatible. so i was able to re-use the original spindle and get new cups.
