Ps. the frame is a junker i think, japanese made, "sakine" or something, but if anyone has any interesting info on them, that would be cool too...

just coz its a campus beater and a Sekine doesnt mean you cant pimp your ride with a stylin' paintjob.

you dont need to strip it completely but some fine grit sandpaper to smooth the surface down will help. mix up some diesel and engine oil (50/50 - you only need a 1/2 a cup) and run it and shake it thru the tubes (cheap rust preventative). let it all dry.

undercoat it - put it in a place with minimal dust - let dry.

then get wild. spray the head tube and seat tube white and let dry. mask off the head tube and make a "barbers pole" mask of the seat tube (ala mercian style) and then paint the rest black. then hand finish a suitable name for the ride with white paint on the downtube - doesnt have to be perfect as more points go towards an interesting name like "Legopener" just to see if anyone is a keen eye. the below link from mercian is a good cue sheet for classic paint styles.

if you want to get a little fancy use a thin brush to paint the edges of all the lugs (you already have white paint for the name) and add some foil bands (silver or gold leaf spreayed over with clear acrylic) or check what pinstriping they have at the autoparts store (you dont need much) to add a few bands.

ok results can be had with a little practice and some auto paint from a can - try to be even and it will work fine for its intended purpose. whatever you do though - chain it up!! it will get stolen :-)

In the sixties, college people would get together, get high, and do weird stuff, like paint their VW's with artist's brushes, doing paisleys, tie-dyes, cartoons, and other psychedelic flower child patterns on 'em. (Think Janis Joplin's Rolls-Royce. If you're too young to remember that, you can probably find a pic online somewhere.)

You could do the same thing with your bike. What could be more retro than that?

I'm doing a custom Foco tig welded frame along the lines of the old So Cal coupe "lakester" race car. pearl white with red scallops off the head tube, and traditional red panels on the seat and down tubes. panels and scallop outlines will be pin-striped in gold and baby blue.
DID it....sctri

Hey,

I did it, its white with black panals, and some white lettering....

The tires have white sidewalls, which is kinda cool..
The paint job is.. well, good from a far, but far from good.. lol (there was some dripe-age etc)

I think i am gona go with a single ring up front and work my way towards swingle speed...

Cheers
