just in from a late evening spin in central park. started off a nice balmy ride and then we pushed the pace a little as it started raining - then pouring heavier as we got faster. nothing like an hour dashing in the rain and i was glad to get the merckx all dirty and dripping. amateurish but fast paceline was a bit foolish considering how wet it was but its a long time till the next paris roubaix - its like the bike carries a bit of eddy in spirit.

the vittoria's stuck well, i am wetter than the flying nun on coblestones, and my bici is drying off with her wheels in the air. the only thing i find tricky about night riding in the rain is trying to spot pot holes - soooo much tougher - it hurts to crash through them fully weighted on the saddle - ouch.

worse still nearly collided into a rollerblading chick going the wrong way while we were on a descent. she veered right, then left, then right ....... ooooooh ... there was only inches in it and she was a bid girl to put it kindly. we kept an eye out for her next lap around ..... no sign of her but we did see a broken rollerblade wheel lying ominously in the road.

but as fast as we were going there were a couple of lone rangers putting in some amazing pace on their own. i tried to pull behind one guy's wheel and when i saw i was in 54 x 15 and losing my spin i gave up as it was like being behind a fire hose with all the spray. i suppose its always the way ..... go fast and still get passed like we were climbing.

time for soba noodles, green tea, some shostakovitch and bed. well maybe some ice cream too.

:-)

-----eddy was a bit faster than i but he didn't put as much thought into his choice of color for bartape and gloves (unless he knew the little girl would be in frame) and where's the chrome please ?????------
chrome is heavy.colker

it's his climbing bike. blue gloves are also lighter than white ones.
actually chrome isnt that heavy at all.....Spirito

chrome plating is very thin and is slightly heavier than good paint . its probably lighter than thick/bad paint and to my mind not only a prettier feature but also more resistant to wear.

but there is chrome and there is chrome as has been discusssed in the clasic rendezvous list recently.

but i conceed that blue gloves may be faster than white gloves but still nowhere near as fast as red gloves. on a tangent perhaps thats why only a few footballers have the skill to play in white boots.
hmm...his fork crown is chrome. is that paso gavia? nmcolker

asking around a while back as to what the frame was most beleived that its a masi special with a few purporting that it may have been a bertin.

of course later he went on to use colnago and derosa made frames.
