|I've got a Schwinn SuperSport that I bought used in 92, and I'm been wondering what model year it actually is. It came with all Shimano 600 components (6 speed), Weinman rims, etc. It's a red lugged frame with white cables, bar tape, etc. Columbus tubing (I can't remember the specific type) and I believe it's a 56cm frame. Anyway, I'm curious if anyone else has ridden one of these frames, and if so, how does it compare to more modern offerings. I actually just upgraded the entire drivetrain to 9 speed, built new wheels, and changed stems, and I'm loving the bike. However, I've never ridden anything else to compare it with. Have you?|

|On e-bay, there are a number of folks trying to sell serial number lists for Schwinns, but you can get the information for free on one used-bike dealer's website. Explore around on
and see if he still has it posted. You need to know the location of the SN on the frame. The format of the number varies .. on mine the first two letters tell the year and month of manufacture.
There's some Schwinn history on schwinn.com, although the website has been crippled, possibly abandoned, since the Huffy takeover (horrible!).
