|yes!! it is all about style ... but i think those vans are just too "busy". the old school canvas check with white rubber sole were much more simple and cleaner in style whereas these are kinda overkill or using old style with steroid overtones ... i couldnt call it classic.
im not knocking them but i think Vans could do much better in paying homage to their past. They however would be more comfortable and should last longer for skating then the originals which were functionally not very good.
below is my new Vittoria's and im just itching to use them (sold my carnac's and am waiting on some Peterson's footbeds). im sure a few will be scratching their heads as they look very old skool and for use with clips and straps but as they also have modern drill patterns i will be using them with my campy clipless pedals. in a word perfect for me as i like modern pedals but want to keep a classic look .
if only i could get 30 more pairs of these i could make a killing (trying to find some eddy merckx era adidas with the same drill pattern - for use with both old and new style pedals ... watch this space).

|....those Vans are a cycling shoe made in homage to the old checked skate slip on. It isn't a redux, but rather an SPD compatible biker boot.
A bit busy? Maybe, but no busier than that pink leather skin suit with red stitching you wear. ; )

|...and pass me another glass of rum, eh mate?
They have a few SPDo-able choos over there on the Vans site. None are as flamboyant as those though.
I'm still searching for new shoes. Currently riding in these. They are nice, but could be stiffer in the sole.

|my parents could never understand why the 3 stripe sports shoes and gear was 3 times or more the price of the 2 or 4 stripe stuff. and boy did i suffer the shame and the insult during my youth at not having the real thing.
whereas now i want the real thing and am obsessed with it. neurotic ????? yes ... but at least im finally stylin'
yes im very vain ..... im yet to wear a one peice action suit or eyeliner contrary to popular belief .... surprising considering that brue lee, the cure and the human league were all big influences in my life. (still looking for that yellow jump suit with black stipes that bruce wore)

PF Flyers. Run faster, jump higher, stop quicker.... RIP :(
Somewhere in my closet I've got a pair of just black, leather lace-up Diadoras. Understated class. The toes are worn through from clips.

|I recall seeing one piece kit like that in the back of cheesy karate magazines along with all the shoes, tiger balms and sticks.
The green stripe addidas, you mean the cross country shoes? I always liked suede pro keds, addidas shell toes(Wooden/Walton/Alcindor days)my current kicks, and Puma.

|by the time shimano bought out the spd drill pattern shoe styles had changed significantly and were no longer made in the style your looking for. so as far as i know your not gonna find them with an SPD drill pattern. these are look (campy, old shimano as well) compatible.
